Why Time Flies By and How Documentary Family Photography Can Help You Make the Most of It.

Nothing is better than real life. And why? Because, it’s authentic

In a world of likes and follows, of fake news and reality TV shows (and let’s face it - those are nowhere near reality!) authenticity becomes that rare gem.

We all crave it.

Now, the problem with real life is that it happens so fast, but this isn’t something to be sad about!

Think about it for a second. When you are busy enjoying yourself doesn’t time just seem to fly by? You are immersed in the people and activities of your day. You’re busy laughing and exploring and playing and then before you know it you are finishing your dessert and getting ready to go to bed for the night.

Rinse, repeat.

We all know that a day spent doing yard work, or an hour in the chair at the dentist does not have the same fleeting quality even when we really want it to! Unless you like yard work of course!

So take this concept of an awesome day and wrap it around childhood. You’re in it. You’re watching your kids grow and reach milestones. They are putting their own shoes on. You are going to soccer practice. You are watching the dance recital already. You are seeing them become more brave and more themselves.

Where has the time gone? Has it already been another year? Life keeps us going and we are busy through the good and the bad, when suddenly your youngest is graduating high school and life is becoming a very different picture.

Just yesterday you were wiping sticky hands and smiling at Kool Aid stained faces that have become distant memories.

The beauty of documentary family photography is that it honours these stages of life and takes those memories that we naturally pass by and creates something tangible with them. Photographs you can hold in your hands.

There is something to be said about tangible photographs, and photo albums. They help the memories stay clear in your ever filling mind, and there is something so special about holding an image in your hand. You can really take it in. It’s not moving. It’s there revealing every single detail to you and giving you the time to really digest and relive it.

Documenting your days as an ever changing family becomes very important as years go by and these memories will be preserved. Through loss. Through phases. Through a new generation. You are savouring your own history and creating your legacy.

And you will have so much fun doing it that you won’t even realize how much time has passed you by, but I will tell you this: you will never regret choosing to capture it.
